Dr. Sierra Trudel

Rooted in connection. Guided by strengths. Inspired by growth.

Welcome! I’m Dr. Sierra Trudel—a licensed psychologist, certified school psychologist, professor, and researcher dedicated to holistic well-being across the lifespan. My work bridges therapy and scholarship, grounded in a deep belief that healing and growth emerge through relationships, resilience, and play. In both my private practice and academic work, I explore how we assess what truly matters, cultivate character strengths, and create space for connection—whether through nature-based strategies, strengths-focused growth, or developmental research that honors the whole person.

About Dr. Trudel

Shifting from "What's Wrong" to "What's Strong"

Sierra M. Trudel, PhD, is an Assistant Professor in the School Psychology program at UMass Amherst, Licensed Psychologist, and a Nationally Certified School Psychologist. She teaches graduate-level courses in school-based consultation, mental health prevention and intervention, and principles and practices in school psychology. She is also the APA Director of Clinical Training.

Her research focuses on shifting from “what's wrong” to “what's strong” by focusing on the development of character strengths in school systems and meaningful assessment practices. She employs mixed-methods approaches that integrate collaborative, participatory, and empowerment-based practices to elevate and honor the voices of participants. Her other scholarly interests include educator well-being, trauma-informed positive education, nature-based interventions, and the role of play across the lifespan.

Dr. Trudel brings extensive experience supporting children, youth, educators, and families from Pre-K through post-secondary in a range of educational settings, including urban and suburban public schools, alternative and therapeutic environments, and higher education. Her professional work has focused on children and adolescents who have been historically underserved, have experienced complex trauma, or present with significant social, emotional, and behavioral needs. Her broad experience also includes initiatives focused on educator resilience and mental health.
